Ed Sheeran booed for winning Best Solo Performance 2018 Grammy Award

Ed Sheeran received a mixed reaction.

He was announced as winner of the Best Pop Solo Performance at the Grammy Awards.

Ed Sheeran, 26, was booed by some members of the audience. After he beat his all-female competitors Kesha, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga and Pink for his hit Shape Of You at Sunday night’s ceremony.

Sheeran – who wasn’t in attendance – divided fans who felt Kesha deserved the trophy for her emotional song, Praying. Which she penned about her depression and sexual assault.

Kesha moved audience members to tears as she performed Praying alongside Camila Cabello, Cyndi Lauper, Julia Michaels, Bebe Rexha and Andra Day.

The performance was introduced by Janelle Monae who gave a speech about the Time’s Up movement, which raises money for those affected by sexual misconduct and assault.
