COVID19 On The Rise Again?

Should Fijians Be Concerned??

With everything getting back to normal in Fiji, there is also a recent rise in Covid cases… Is Covid really on the rise again?

Recent updates from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services is that there are currently 60 new cases. There is also 1 death of an unvaccinated 45-year-old woman with multiple pre-existing medical conditions here in Fiji.

Twenty of those new cases were recorded on June 10. 2 new cases were recorded on June 11, 28 new cases on June 12, and 10 new cases in the last 24 hours ending at 8am yesterday.

With Covid Precautionary Safety Measures now relaxed, there seems to be a rise in recent Covid cases. The national 7-day rolling average of cases as of 9th June is now 14. According to the Ministry of Health, there are currently 161 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

The Central Division cases constitute 67 per cent of the cumulative total cases nationally. The Western Division making up 28 per cent, 3 per cent in the Northern Division, and 2 per cent in the Eastern Division.

This begs the question, should the MOH put up the COVID safety measures again? With Fiji slowly getting back to normalcy, these measures may take Fiji back a few steps financially, economically, mentally and even physically.

But with all that being said, the public should not have to wait for an official statement from the Ministry of Health. Continue to follow Covid 19 safety protocols if Fiji is to fully regain normalcy. The virus will still be around whether we choose to fight it or not, but it is our responsibility to choose to follow the safety measures set up to save ourselves and our families.

So mask up whether you’re vaccinated or not. Better to be safe than sorry.

Will there be another Pandemic in Fiji?
