World Environment Day is held each year on June 5. It is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.
And today in Lautoka, About 500 trees will be planted at the Lautoka Botanical Garden to mark World Environment Day.
This is a partnership between Reforest Fiji, Fiji National University (FNU), Pacific Islands Rainforest Foundation, European Union, Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and Lautoka City Council.
With the theme “Plant a tree- reduce the heat- create a greener city”, each person who plants a tree will be given a plaque with their name carved to be placed beside the tree. The event starts from 9am – 5pm.
From the Mixfm team, Happy World Environmental Day to you!
