Traditional protocol to be observed at funeral

Traditional protocol is to be observed in the village of Nakelo as people mourn the loss of the late Bau chief Adi Samanunu Talakuli who was married to the high chief of Nakelo Ratu Manasa Talakuli.

Chiefly herald Poasa Ratu said the protocols include no wearing of jewellery, no umbrellas to be used, no makeup or carrying of bags on the shoulders plus all women with long hair are asked not to tie their hair.

Ratu said women are to wear black-sleeved dresses with sulu-i-ra while the men have been asked to wear black sulu with white long-sleeved shirts.

He said traditional warriors will be stationed within the village.

Adi Samanunu, a former Fijian Affairs Minister and Ambassador of Fiji to Malaysia, passed away last Monday at her residence in Nakelo.

She will be laid to rest at 10am Friday.

The reguregu starts this Wednesday.
