Lord of the Rings cinematographer Andrew Lesnie dies aged 59: Russell Crowe leads tributes

He worked alongside Peter Jackson on several projects during his 40-year career, including The Hobbit film franchise. Lord of the Rings cinematographer Andrew Lesnie has died aged 59.According to News.com.au, the Oscar-winner – who won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography in 2002 for Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – is said to have passed away after suffering a heart attack a Monday.A spokesman from the Australian Cinematographers Society is quoted as saying: “We have been advised of the sudden death of Andrew.”

Russell Crowe, who worked with Andrew on his latest film The Water Diviner, has led tributes to his close friend, describing him as a “master of light”.He wrote: “Devastating news from home. The master of the light, genius Andrew Lesnie has passed on.”
