Breathtaking cliff face elevator in China recognised as world’s tallest outdoor lift.
The incredible Bailong Elevator in Hunan, China was today honoured at a special Guinness World Records certificate presentation event.
Standing at 326 m (1,070 ft), the mechanical marvel, which is located at the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, holds the record for world’s tallest outdoor lift.
The upper 171.4 m of the elevator is above ground and built on the side of a quartzite cliff.
The elevator gives passengers a spectacular view over the area’s massive karst monolith formations, including one nearby called “Soldiers Gathering Together”.
Open to the public since May 2002, the ascent in one of the three double-deck elevators takes just 1 minute and 32 seconds. Each elevator has a capacity of 4,900 kg.
