hang out without a smartphone

7 ways to get rid of your smartphone addiction- Nomophobia

Today, there is actually a term for those who live with the fear of being without their smartphones – Nomophobia

Let’s face it., nowadays we can’t live without our smartphones. Most people are glued to their smartphones all the time, otherwise known as Nomophobia. Worse, a lot of those people would rather look into their phones than have a conversation with a real person.

Smartphones are now an essential part of our daily lives. But excess use of smartphone and other devices may lead to attention, behaviour and self-regulation problems for adolescents already at risk for mental health issues.

For those who feel like they are too dependent on their smartphones, maybe it’s time to take a break and start paying attention towards the better things.

So here are 7 steps to get rid of Nomophobia:

  1. Customize notifications on smartphone
the lesser notifications you receive, the less likely you are to check your smartphone.
  2. Limit smartphone usage
For example, it’s advisable to keep smartphones away during meals or social gatherings.
  3. Get rid of unnecessary apps
Social media apps like Facebook and Twitter are not absolutely essential on smartphones.
  4. Turn phone off before going to bed
it will help you sleep better .
  5. Take help from apps
there are a number of apps on the Play Store that actually help you limit your smartphone usage.
  6. Use the old-fashioned way of keeping track of time
it’s best to resort to wearing wrist watches again. Because as soon as we check our phones for the time we end up checking all the apps on our smartphones.
  7. -Switch back to a feature phone
so if you have a serious smartphone addiction, and none of the above mentioned points help, you probably need an equally extreme measure to tackle the issue. Keep a feature or basic phone with you to use when you know you over doing the smartphone thing.
