2022 COCA-COLA GAMES LAUTOKA ZONE DAY1
With great anticipation leading up to this year’s Coca-Cola Games, the schools taking part in the Lautoka Zone are out to prove that the west is HUNGRY for Victory after 2 years of being on a break. At the end of Day1 Natabua High School leads the boys division with 15 Gold, 13 Silver and 8 Bronze Medals, Lautoka Central is currently in 2nd place with 4Gold, 4Silver and 8Bronze medals while Pundit Vishnu Deo Memorial College follows closely behind in 3rd place with 2Gold and 2Bronze medals. But don’t count out Drasa Secondary School just yet in 4th place with 2Gold and 2Bronze medals.
Meanwhile in the Girls Division, Jasper Williams High School are currently in the lead with 13Gold, 12Silver and 8Bronze medals, Natabua High School is in 2nd with 6Gold, 6Silver and 6Bronze and in 3rd place Lautoka Central College follows closely with 3Gold, 4Silver and 2Bronze. In 4th place in the girls division is St. Thomas High School with 2Gold, 2Silver and 2Bronze.
It was the survival of the fittest during the 400m and 100m finals at the end of Day1 with Natabua scooping the Blue Ribbon in both the Boys and Girls Senior Divisions. Natabua High School’ Ofa Loganilakeba proved she has what it takes to beat reigning champs Jasper Willaim when she scooped Gold in the 100m Girls Finals clocking a time of 11:77Second. While Natabua High School’s Mesulame Tuigau showed class as he surprised himself taking Gold in the 100m Boys Finals with a time of 10:33Seconds.
More exciting about Day1 of the Coca-cola Games Lautoka Zone were the records broken in day1 alone. A total of 3 records were broken today. Jeremi Takaniwaqalevu broke the Sub-Junior Boys Discus record. His new record of 30metres broke Tilak High School’s Mohammed Ahmed’s record of 27.54metres set in 2020, while the 2 other records come from the long distance track events. Makereta Vamela of Ba Provincial’s record of 6:02:71 in the Junior Girls 1500m was broken by Ba Provincial’s Manaini Tikomaitailevu’s new record of 5:58:52minutes. And the underdogs who came all the way from the Yasawas was here to prove a point today as the 1500m Inter Girls record of 6:02:71minutes set by Vani Batakinikini of Ba Provincial in 2020 was broken by Yasawa High School’s Ulamila Vata clocking a time of 5:42:59minutes.
With the bar set quite high at the end of the first day of the 2022Coca-Cola Games Lautoka Zone, it is most definite that the Sugar City can’t wait for what’s to come tomorrow.
