Multiple Personality Day!!

I for one find people with multiple personalities unique…but i did not know that it is a disorder!! esp with those who have 3 or more personalities…

Multiple Personality Day was created to highlight its namesake disorder, and raise awareness of its affect on the day to day life of those who suffer from it. And this goes deeper that just being a bit moody now and again, and being your normal self later – this is about having totally different, clearly apparent personalities which have their own identities and own ways of interacting with their environment.

The History of Multiple Personality Day
Exactly when this day started appearing in the calendar is unknown – however, the reasons behind it are very clear. Multiple personality disorder is also known as dissociative identity disorder, a medical condition which through the years has been brought more and more prominently into the medical field.

To be diagnosed with dissociate identity disorder, you’d need to be displaying at least two different personalities, any of which can ‘take control’ of you at any given time. It is not uncommon for, when one personality takes over, for another to entirely forget what you were up to when the first one was active. It’s no wonder that such a condition is very difficult for sufferers to cope with.

It’s incredible to try and understand, but while some sufferers have two or three personalities, others can have ten, twenty, thirty personalities. Some people with the disorder reportedly have upwards of 90 personalities, with one often being dominant while switching between the others at least a few times a day.

How to Observe Multiple Personality Day
Show your support by bringing the disorder into conversation, raise awareness at work and amongst your friends. Or, you could take the time out to check out the fascinating history of multiple personality disorder, including all the incredible people who have suffered from it past and present.

Perhaps today you could also think about your own personality, and how it might be like to live with the trials and tribulations of having more than one.

As always, make sure you use the hashtag on social media of #multiplepersonalityday to get the word out there and keep the conversation alive about this rare but important mental illness.

Make awareness! and lets support multiple personality day
