When Pride was 14, his mother purchased him his first guitar and he taught himself to play.Though he loved music, one of Pride’s lifelong dreams was to become a professional baseball played. On May 1, 1993, Pride became a member of the Grand Ole Opry. n 1994, Pride cowrote (with Jim Henderson) his autobiography, Pride: The Charley Pride Story.[ , he reveals that he has struggled for years with manic depression.
