A 22-year-old woman of Nawaka Nadi is believed to be the latest road fatality.
This follows an early morning accident at the Balenakula Bridge on the main Queens Highway, Sabeto whereby the vehicle she was traveling in was hit by another vehicle driven by a 26-year-old man.
It is alleged the vehicle driven by the suspect veered off to the opposite lane on the bridge as his vision was impaired by oncoming headlights.
However this is all subject to investigations.
The suspect was traveling alone while the other vehicle driven by a man in his 30s was accompanied by his wife, 5-year-old daughter and 2 women, one of whom unfortunately died allegedly as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
Three of the passengers remain admitted under observation at the Nadi Hospital while the suspect is being questioned by police.
Investigations continue.
The road death toll currently stands at 38 compared to 33 for the same period last year.
